Reflective Statement

05/24/2024  Reflective Statement Firstly, I describe the journaling process as a comforting and time-consuming assessment which leads to analyze constantly the class’s content. It's been the first time I journaled my learning process in that way, and I must say that procrastination affected accomplishing the activity in a timely manner. Throughout this essay, I will explain the challenges, applications and takeaways from this project. Secondly, the main challenge. The main challenge I faced was definitely the lack of time to complete the journals during the last months. Because of personal matters, I had to accept a full-time position in order to increase my incomes. That situation delayed the journaling process and the quality of it. My notes were too vague and general, so I had to look for further details on the recordings which consumed a lot of time and energy. Eventually, I reorganized my schedules to free up time to work on the journals. Thirdly, I strongly believe that j...

Nunch'i

02/20/2024 Nunch'i          To begin with, let's define nunch’i. Nunch'i means eye measured. It is critical variable in the maintenance of social relationships. It has great impact on  korean people, they could not survive in Korea without this perceptive skill.         Korean scholars have referred to nunch’i as a non-logical process variable that uses visual perception to discover the hidden agenda behind all forms of expression in social interaction. Yum (1987a) refers to nunch’i as "perceptiveness or sensitivity with eyes". According to Kalton (1990), nunch’i is used to read the eyes and to assess "quickly and accurately...another's emotions, attitudes, and reaction or likely reaction to a given proposal or situations" (p. 14). K. Kim (1975) states that Koreans use nunch’i to interpret facial expressions, words and "a mysterious 'alpha' hidden in...inner hearts" (p. 7). According to O. Lee (1967), this nunch’i goes "beyond...

Myers Scotton Ch1

03/12/2024 Myers Scotton Ch1          Bilingualism is the ability to speak more than one language, isn't it? Our perception of bilingualism will depend a great deal on our nationality or where we are living. Those North Americans who are monolingual in English have a hard time comprehending what another language consists of or how people can manage two languages. According to the author, "Being bilingual" doesn't imply complete mastery of two languages. Further, speakers are rarely equally fluent in two languages. All humans of normal intelligence speak at least one language.        In Europe, people at least speak two languages. In fact, typical Europeans in nations with a firmly established single national language used to think of becoming bilingual as not the by-product of everyday life, but rather a part of formal education.  Furthermore, bilingualism is a natural outcome of the socio-political forces that create groups and their b...

Critical thinking lecture

04/11/2024  Critical thinking lecture      To begin with let's describe briefly critical thinking. Critical thinking is the analysis of available facts, evidence, observations, and arguments in order to form a judgement by the application of rational, skeptical, and unbiased analyses and evaluation. The application of critical thinking includes self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored, and self-corrective habits of the mind. There are three elements for teaching critical thinking, first dialogue, teacher poses questions and encourages student to dialogue as a class or in a small group. Second of authentic instruction teacher focuses the dialogue on problems that make sense to the student using role play simulation. Mentorship one on one week with teacher, coach or other adult follow up with additional practice. Wasta by Robert Cunningham

02/29/2024 Wasta A Middle Eastern Concept & an American Perspective        To start let's define Wasta, it is a practice in Arab society where people use their personal relationships to gain favor. According to the author Wasta as mediation has a long and honorable history. In a tribal setting, wasta mediation binds families and communities for peace and well-being in a hostile environment. This face of wasta benefits society as a whole,as well as the parties involved. This practice has been present in the society for a long time.      Nowdays, Wasta is seen as a mixed blessing. While it once helped resolve disputes between tribal groups and promote harmony, in modern society it has caused much personal frustration and slowed down business and government. Personally, Wasta created and perpetuated a system of winners and losers.  In addition; wasta has also been criticized as negatively affecting business and government. While the pr...

The subtle art of not giving a f*ck by Marc Manson

03/21/2024 The subtle art of not giving a f*ck      Giving a fuck about something has for a long time been considered a bad expression or a bad attitude towards something. There are people who consider that it refers to not caring about anything at all or that you believe that everything is a useless trash. However, not giving a fuck does not mean being indifferent; it means being comfortable with being different. In fact, indifferent people often attempt to be indifferent because in reality they give way too much importance to their problems.  They’re afraid to let anyone get close to them, so they imagine themselves as some special, unique  snowflake who has problems that nobody else would ever understand.      According to the Marc Manson, indifferent people are afraid of the world and the repercussions of their own choices. That’s why they don’t make any meaningful choices. They hide in a gray, emotionless pit of their own making, self...

Metacognition by MetaCog experts

04/11/2024 Metacognition by MetaCog experts        To start, I will set some generalities about metacognition. Metacognition begins developing at age of 5 to 7, improves throughout the school. Many students diagnosed with learning disabilities have problems with metacognition.  Improving metacognition skill can help students who often have problems at school. Therefore, it's important to use strategies and special kinds of procedural knowledges, knowing how to approach learning tasks require intentional effort when it first used.  To mention some of strategies we have planning, focusing attention, organization, remembering, comprehending, cognitive monitoring, and practice.         Metacognition is an awareness of our mental processes and understanding of the patterns behind them. It might also be someones's ability to use prior knowledge to plan a strategy for approaching a learning task, take necessary steps to problem solve, re...

How much is that again? -Una Cora! By Nelson Vasquez

04/04/04 How much is that again? -Una Cora!      First of all, I need to point out my perspective about the influence of English in other languages.  English has influenced our culture in multiple ways, mostly in our daily speaking. This is because of pop culture, the currency change, call center industry, commercialization of American brands in El Salvador like Starbucks, and Walmart. Social Medial, globalization, etc. Eventually, this affected our language ever since Salvadorans borrowed words and phrases from English.      Furthermore, t here are two main factors that influenced the pursuit of English instruction in El Salvador: On the one hand, the government foreign language (EFL) policy states that all students must receive English classes from 7th grade to 11th grade. On the other hand, the arrival of the call center industry in El Salvador in 1998 was an eye-opener for many adults – older than 16 – who started pursuing English instruction...

Interlanguage by Elaine Tarone

04/02/2024 Interlanguage       To begin with I must say i nterlanguage refers to the linguistic system evidenced when an adult SL learner attempts to express meanings in the language being learned. In addition, t his linguistic system encompasses not just phonology, morphology, and syntax, but also lexical, pragmatic, and discourse levels of interlanguage. (p.748). The term interlanguage (IL) was introduced by the American linguist Larry Selinker to refer to the linguistic system evidenced when an adult second language learner attempts to express meanings in the language being learned. The interlanguage is viewed as a separate linguistic system, clearly different from both tbe learner's 'native language' (NL) and the 'target language' (TL) being· 1earned, but linked to both NL and TL by interlingual identifications in the perception of the learner.      Let's continue with another term related to this manner. Fossilization, it was another a theory pr...
